Sweet Chocolaty Mini-Me by ZombieArmadillo Sweet Chocolaty Mini-Me by ZombieArmadillo
A small self-portrait in solid chocolate. Which may be the most difficult casting material I've tried yet, but on the other hand, does give you unique opportunities for autocannibalism.

After I'd sculpted myself I decided that I looked much too srs business :|, and thus needed a fat cheerful cat on my shoulder to put things in their proper perspective.

Naturally, it has a walnut inserted in its skull for a brain. The version I made for my nut-allergic significant other had gummy candy brains instead. NOM NOM etc.

~

Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, cat and brains. About 8,5 centimeters/3.3 inches high.

Want!

I saw you talking about possibly selling things like this in an earlier comment. I was wondering if you'd thought to do sculpts of people, and then sell them the molds so they can make chocolates of themselves? I'd be interested in knowing what you'd charge for just a half mold (like one that would give a flat back instead of a 3D head)

(Er, that should probably say "none of the casting. Not molding.)

Well, doing a half-portrait and none of the molding would obviously decrease the price somewhat. But of course, when it comes to mold work, most of the work is in the master sculpt and the mold, and the price of the replicas will decrease depending on how many can be cast and sold. Also, what I spent most time on sculpting was the face, which'd still need the same amount of attention; wouldn't want to sell portraits that didn't have a good likeness. Hn... I didn't really time myself when I was doing this (I was working on another project at the same time), so I don't want to make any public price estimates that I might come to regret. I'll send you a note.

I don't think anything made out of chocolate can be too srsbsns ever.

This looks awesome, I did not realize you could get that kind of texture on the dreads in chocolate. :O

Well, it would have been wasteful and irresponsible not to do so, wouldn't it? I daresay eating the leftover chocolate was nothing more than a moral imperative! :P

I don't have that much of a sweet-tooth; I guess that was to my advantage in this case. Now, if I was to make a self-portrait out of a fine cheese, on the other hand... :D

Well... to put it simply: first, you make a sculpture. (I made mine out of Super Sculpey.) Then, you make a silicon mold of your sculpture. Then, you melt chocolate and pour it into the mold. Once the chocolate is hard again, you carefully remove it from the mold, touch it up if needed, and eat it. :hungry:

Thanks for the :+fav:!

I've given it some thought, although if it'd be an original portrait for the birthday person, they would end up very expensive for a piece of chocolate. Quite a lot of work with the sculpting, moldmaking and pouring, you know. Making several copies of the same sculpture would obviously cut the price a fair bit, since it'd only be the pouring that'd need doing repeatedly, but people might not be as interested in buying tiny chocolate someone-elses...

Thank a lot for the :+fav:, btw. Much appreciated! :)
