So this past month, my work has included white trash gingerbread houses, fleshy spiny bio-weapons (that one was a repair job rather than an original, but still interesting), and most recently, hundreds and hundreds of styrofoam letters. Yep, I recently began working on part the second of The Job That Ate My Life, a.k.a. Livet i Bokstavslandet, the educational children's show for which I did the first season last spring. Last year, it kind of nommed all of my spare time, and then some (had to stay in the workshop a few nights, because there wasn't time to go home and sleep or shower). I do hope that it won't be quite as bad this year, but as it looks now... well, just don't expect much activity from me in the next few months.
As usual, there are copyright and secrecy issues and stuff about what you can post online, but I hope to get to share some pictures once these things have premiered (and once my head isn't full of styrofoam words and letters). Pretty curious to see the gingerbread one in action, personally. The person who's worked with the most weird materials when they die wins, right?
In personal news, in the midst of said odd jobs, I also recently moved out of the apartment I've shared with my now ex for a couple of years. It's weird and a bit melancholy -- I do very much like the man, but our long-term compatibility was quite low, and we both knew it. Also, I've had to compress my home work area quite a lot after the move -- the housing market in Stockholm can be pretty harsh when you can't afford to just up and buy an apartment. Still, had to happen, and was really a bit overdue. And at least now I have a room that I'm not sharing with anyone, which I rather needed. The environs around the place where I'm now renting a room are among the prettiest I've seen in the Stockholm area (it's right next door to a nature reserve). Plus, apart from my new flatmate, I also share the apartment with a cat -- a rather talkative old matron kitty named Ripley -- which is always a plus. Far too many years since I lived with any kind of quadruped. Next time I consider getting attached to someone, I should probably check if they're allergic first.

My shop: Armadillo Artifacts on Etsy. Because of my recent work load, I have increased the handling times somewhat, from 1-3 work days to up to one week until posting. Also I'll probably not put up anything new in the next couple of months, but only handle orders on what's already there, so if you like anything and need it before mid-July or so, be aware that the things in the shop are the only ones available until then. Still, feel free to browse, and if you'd like to make an urgent order, write me in advance and I'll see if I can make time for it!
A note about commissions: I'm closed for commissions until July, once more because Work. Some of the things in my gallery may still be available and up for sale at the right price, and if you're interested in buying something you see or commissioning anything that can wait until July or later -- props, accessories, jewelry, or any other stuff that's within the range of my competence -- feel free to write and ask. Doesn't hurt to start talking in advance, after all.
I decided to make a blog that's more focused on props and related things (whereas I consider DA to be more of a personal "anything goes" kind of forum), but I got derailed before I was done putting up my backlog1. And now I don't know if I'll have the time or energy to get back to it before I'm out of the Land of Letters once more. Anyway, it currently doesn't have much that isn't on DA already, but it's on Wordpress here, or reblogged on Tumblr here.</span>
1 Uh, kind of like I periodically do here on DA as well. Well dammit, I just like making stuff a lot better than editing the pictures and putting it up online. This is why I need to kidnap an agent and a web designer and make them do my bidding.
The holiday season approaches.
After months of hiatus, when my attention was mostly focused on theatre work, I have decided to put up my Etsy shop again. This might be the best season for it, after all.
Now, perhaps it would also be some point in letting people know about it. How do you do this promotion thing again?
If unique handmade jewelry with an emphasis on recycled materials, found objects, natural materials, and perhaps the occasional Gallifreyan quote sounds like it might be up your proverbial alley, I would like to direct your attention to the fact that I have a shop on Etsy, where items such as those pictured above and many more are available. There are als
As the year winds down
Around this time of the year, there's often a lot of talk about discarding the old year; wiping the slate; starting anew. Reboot that shit like you're a major comic publisher trying to do away with 30+ years of snarled and contradictive continuity. Tabula rasa, and all that. A nice sentiment, although not entirely practical. Cause and effect has a tendency to keep happening in spite of calendar changes, and even the tabula of a fresh newborn isn't actually all that rasa.
Me, I'm thinking of `ursulav (https://www.deviantart.com/ursulav) Ursula Vernon -- a fine artist, writer and gardener I quite admire -- and what she wrote about mulch [1]. While it's a piece about art and
Etsy shop opening!
So I've gone and opened my Etsy shop at last. Here: Armadillo Artifacts on Etsy.
Among the items for sale, some have showed up in my gallery here, like the earcuffs and Abacus style jewelry; other things will be put up shortly, and then there's some other stuff. So far it's all jewelry items, but in the future, I may start putting up other accessories, masks, props, etched glassware or other things, if there appears to be an interest... it's slightly harder to gauge whether slightly more expensive items would be good to sell on Etsy or if they're better kept as commissions, but I may experiment with it anyway. :)
As a small note, there's
Television work, commissions, and stuff
That thing where it's been so long since you posted anything, and it becomes progressively harder to know where to begin, y'know? I'm a pretty good worker, but I suck quite mightily at self-promotion. :D
(Also, that thing where you're not too sure about what you can post and what you can only link to, because of copyright issues and whatnot, and where one or two things are definitely off limits since they're in post-production Limbo. Whatever.)
Working my way through the watchlist backlog bit by bit. Might not reply to every fave and the like, but do know that I am thankful.
